More than 70 children read a combined total of 70,195 minutes during the Jefferson public library’s free summer reading program. According to children’s librarian Terry Clark, “each child who participated was a winner.”
The statewide theme this year was “Every Hero Has a Story.” In keeping with the theme, children earned superhero symbol tokens and spent them at the “Super Heroes R Us” store at the library.
The final party included drawings for several prizes. Christopher Lansman and Cassady Ruth were awarded prizes for the Heroes Look and Find drawing. Noble Hoyt and Payton Kikenge won capes, gloves and masks in the Burglar Look and Find drawing, and Rylan Hostetler won an Excuses pizza in the To Infinity and Beyond drawing.
Stephan Blasnitz and Lucy Vander Linden won the Book Burglar Over 500 Minutes Club drawing. Super Reader winner was Jaden Koller who read 2,820 minutes in the two-month program.
Grand prize winner was Nehemiah Hoyt. He received a gift certificate for a new bicycle.
